Privacy Policy

From day one, the plan was simple: collect as little as possible and keep your work on your device. No need for data collection, accounts, logins etc.

  • No account required
  • We don’t sell or share personal information

The ButterKit App

The ButterKit app runs entirely on your Mac. It does not contain session recording, heatmaps, or behavioral tracking.

  • Anonymous app diagnostics are optional. The ButterKit app sends anonymous usage signals to TelemetryDeck to help us squash bugs and improve features. You can switch this off anytime in Settings.
  • iCloud is optional. If you choose to store documents in iCloud, your data is stored securely with Apple and covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
  • OpenAI and cloud models are optional. You may choose to connect to OpenAI, OpenRouter, or other cloud providers (e.g. for translations). If enabled, requests are handled by the respective cloud provider. ButterKit works without it.
  • Payment processors. ButterKit’s Merchant of Record is Lemon Squeezy. When you purchase or activate a license, your data is handled by the Lemon Squeezy Privacy Policy. The ButterKit app may occasionally check the installed license key to ensure it’s valid.
  • Mac App Store purchases. When purchasing on the Mac App Store, licensing, in-app purchases, and related data are handled by Apple and RevenueCat. See Apple’s Privacy Policy and RevenueCat’s Privacy Policy.

The ButterKit Website

The butterkit.app website uses standard web analytics to improve the site experience. These tools do not run inside the ButterKit app.

  • Website analytics (privacy-first). We use Umami.is and Google Analytics for basic site metrics with ads features disabled (no Google Signals; no ads personalization). In the EEA/UK/EFTA we do not set analytics cookies unless you opt in. We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC), and you can change your preference anytime in the website footer via Cookie Preferences. See Google’s Privacy Policy.
  • Cookieless analytics. We also use PostHog in cookieless mode for privacy-preserving website analytics. PostHog does not set any cookies or use local storage; unique visitors are counted using a server-side hash that cannot be reversed into personal data. PostHog data is hosted in the EU (Frankfurt). Because no personal data is stored on your device, this does not require cookie consent.
  • Reddit conversion measurement (optional). We use the Reddit Pixel to measure ad performance (no retargeting, no audience sharing). In the EEA/UK/EFTA it loads only if you opt in; elsewhere you can manage it anytime via Cookie Preferences. See Reddit’s Privacy Policy.
  • X (Twitter) conversion measurement (optional). We use the X Pixel to measure ad performance and build anonymized website audiences. In the EEA/UK/EFTA it loads only if you opt in; elsewhere you can manage it anytime via Cookie Preferences. See X’s Privacy Policy.

California Privacy Notice (CPRA)

We do not sell or share personal information as defined by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA).
We use analytics and conversion measurement only.

  • Opt-out signals: We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC). If GPC is enabled in your browser, we treat it as an opt-out.
  • Change your choice anytime: Cookie Preferences

If our practices change (e.g., we enable cross-context behavioral advertising/retargeting), we will update this notice and provide a “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information” option.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as ButterKit improves. When we do, we’ll update the “Last updated” date. If anything ever requires new data from you, we’ll explain it plainly and let you choose.
