Why am I seeing "The dimensions of one or more screenshots are incorrect"?
When uploading screenshots in App Store Connect, you may encounter this error:
The dimensions of one or more screenshots are incorrect.
This typically happens when you manually upload screenshots that don’t match the size slot you’re uploading to, or when you mix screenshot sizes from different display classes.
What causes this
App Store Connect groups screenshots by display size (e.g. 6.9" Display, 6.5" Display, 13" Display). Each display size slot accepts only specific pixel dimensions. If you upload a screenshot that was rendered for a different display size, the upload will be rejected.
Common scenarios:
- Uploading iPhone 6.9" screenshots into the 6.5" slot (or vice versa). For example, a 1320 x 2868 screenshot belongs to the 6.9" display slot, not the 6.5" slot which expects 1284 x 2778 or 1242 x 2688.
- Replacing existing screenshots with a different size. If you previously uploaded 6.5" screenshots and now try to upload 6.9" screenshots into the same slot, the dimensions won’t match.
- Exporting at the wrong scale. Screenshots exported at 1x instead of the native resolution (typically 2x or 3x) will have incorrect dimensions.
How to fix it
- Check which display size slot you’re uploading to. In App Store Connect, each display size has its own section. Make sure your screenshot dimensions match the slot you’re targeting.
- Verify your screenshot dimensions. You can check dimensions in Finder by selecting the file and pressing Cmd + I, or by opening it in Preview and checking Tools > Show Inspector.
- Re-export at the correct size. If using ButterKit, ensure your artboard is configured for the correct device. ButterKit automatically exports at the correct pixel dimensions for each device type.
- Use ButterKit’s direct upload. The easiest way to avoid dimension mismatches is to use ButterKit’s Upload to App Store Connect feature, which automatically places screenshots in the correct display size slots.
Skip the hassle: let ButterKit upload for you
You can bypass this error entirely by using ButterKit’s built-in Upload to App Store Connect feature. Instead of manually dragging files into the correct slots in App Store Connect, ButterKit exports each screenshot at the exact pixel dimensions required and uploads them directly to the right display size slot via the App Store Connect API. No more guessing which size goes where.
Apple’s accepted screenshot sizes
Each platform and display size has specific pixel dimensions that App Store Connect accepts. For the full list of accepted sizes, see Apple’s official documentation:
