How do I activate my ButterKit license?

How do I activate my ButterKit license?

ButterKit is offered through two separate distribution channels, and each has its own activation path. Choose the section below that matches where you purchased.

Not sure which version you have? Open ButterKit and choose ButterKit > About ButterKit. The Mac App Store build is labeled accordingly; otherwise you have the direct (website) version. Note that license keys from the website only work with the direct version, and Mac App Store purchases only unlock the Mac App Store version.

Direct (website) version

If you purchased a Pro license from butterkit.app, you’ll receive a license key by email shortly after checkout.

  1. Open ButterKit on your Mac
  2. Go to ButterKit > Settings > License
  3. Paste your license key and click Activate
  4. You should see a confirmation that your Pro license is active
Example of the ButterKit license activation UI

Activate or deactivate your ButterKit Pro license in Settings > License

A single license can be activated on up to 5 computers. You can manage or deactivate machines from the “View Order” link in your purchase confirmation email.

Mac App Store version

If you installed ButterKit from the Mac App Store, Pro is unlocked through Apple’s standard in-app purchase flow. There is no license key to enter.

First-time purchase

  1. Open ButterKit on your Mac
  2. Go to ButterKit > Settings > License (or trigger any Pro feature)
  3. Click Upgrade to Pro and complete the purchase with your Apple ID
  4. Pro features unlock as soon as the purchase completes

Already purchased on this Apple ID

If you’ve already purchased Pro (for example, on another Mac, after reinstalling, or with Family Sharing), use Restore Purchases:

  1. Open ButterKit on your Mac
  2. Go to ButterKit > Settings > License
  3. Click Restore Purchases
  4. Sign in with the Apple ID used for the original purchase if prompted
Make sure you’re signed in to the Mac App Store with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. Mac App Store purchases are tied to your Apple ID and cannot be transferred between accounts.
