Where are my project files stored?
ButterKit projects are saved as .butterkit files wherever you choose on your Mac. There is no cloud storage or account required – your files are always local and under your control.
Project file structure
A .butterkit file is a package (folder) that contains:
- Your project data and settings
- Captured screenshot images (in the
assetsfolder) - Template and design configurations
To explore the contents, right-click a .butterkit file in Finder and select Show Package Contents.
Backup recommendations
Since projects are local files, we recommend:
- Storing projects in a folder synced by iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or similar
- Regular backups via Time Machine or your preferred backup solution
- Version control (git) if you’re managing projects as part of a development workflow
